Gakon founder: Bert Gardien

He was in his early 20s. Young and enthusiastic. Ambitious and driven. Courageous and with an eye for market demand, the young Bert Gardien was destined for entrepreneurship. Starting as an entrepreneur in house-building, he soon started building wooden greenhouses. Thus Gakon was born. Wooden greenhouses – can you imagine? A lot has changed in sixty years. Wooden greenhouses have made way for innovative concepts. That is how Gakon became a pioneer in the 1980s, with the launch of its own aluminium roof and facade system.

Developments within Gakon

Not only have Gakon products been revamped over the past 60 years, there has been rejuvenation within the firm itself. In 2007, we moved to our new production site on Wateringse Veld industrial estate. In early 2001, Gakon was taken over by its current owner Pieter Berchum. Gakon has been active in the greenhouse horticulture sector for more than sixty years. A lot has changed and been rejuvenated enormously over all those years, but much remains the same. With our enthusiasm, drive, and eye on market demand, we will continue to renew!
